Having undertaking this assignment, I embarked on the quest for the appropriate solution to the problem facing East London Hospital. Complicated appointment and data flow procedures plagued the hospital’s handling of urgent cases. In this respect, some alterations to the system of hospital management were proposed. Questionnaire composed by the author will play one of the key roles in the development of recommendations. It encompasses questions that investigate both current health system and  proposed changes. Interpreting its results will reveal the level of satisfaction/dissatisfaction of the patients, which in its turn serves as a main indicator of the taken measures’ efficiency. After all, the proposed alterations were designed to address the hardships facing the hospital, optimize working schedule of the hospital staff, and last, but certainly not least to please the patients.        

A series of diagrams were drawn to illustrate different processes. They mainly focus on the data flow directions and staff relationship.


This project is designed to help a Well Being Clinic administration to go through the thickets of red tape and officialdom, as well as to improve the process of patients’ reception. It aims at the automation of the East London hospital management system. It maintains two levels of user:

  1. Administrative level majorly performed by the receptionist, and
  2. User level, which involves the patients, their families, and their doctors. It is designed to deal with the patients’ information, providing and maintaining all kinds of check up for patients.

Numerous diagrams (context diagram, entity relationship diagram, and data flow diagram) were made up to visually demonstrate the current state of affairs or/and the proposed changes. These very diagrams fill the gap in understanding system and user requirements.


The main aim of this project is to come up with a better health management system that is well planned and organized. It is for enhancing proper data storage, which will help in information retrieval and storage.


The main objective of this project is to gradually design a step-by-step program, which would significantly optimize the efficiency of the health management system and minimize the time cost necessary for its implementation. 

Recommendations and limitations

The particular information sometimes might be difficult to retrieve. For instance, the practitioner has to go through various registers in order to find patient’s history in case the supporting health records have not been sent to the clinic. Though this possibility is almost ruled out, unforeseen contingencies may interfere.  However, a more sophisticated process of data exchange could be produced.

On the other hand, too voluminous amounts of information may pose a threat to the storage of this information as well as compromise the information itself. 

Another issue is the notification of patients that an appointment has been made. Sending of a letter to the patient’s home address may consume too much time, so it is not very effective. This outdated method should be left on the scrapheap of history.


The initiated alterations to the hospital management system are designed to speed up the working in the hospital. The automation of the system aids in updating databases and facilitates the process of the patients’ admission to the clinic. By and large, assessing the overall transformation of the East London hospital management system, it should be noted that it was timely and appropriate. Some amendments are still to be adopted of course. However, it will take some time for the clinic staff and patients to assess the virtues and drawbacks of this project.
